Anne Andrews nee Carroll 1833 - 1920
| Anne was born in Shinrose,King’s County,Ireland and came to New South Wales as a young girl of 22 years in 1855.She married George Andrews in 1859,four years after arriving in New South Wales and was 5 years older than her husband. There were 8 children of the marriage and research has shown the family were all brought up in hard and tough times, possibly due to the father being away on carrying work for long periods of time. When her husband George died in 1903,Anne stayed on the property at Goorangoola for a further 7years,before taking up residence with her son at Bulga where she remained until her passing in 1920 in her 87th year. Her obituary published in the Singleton Argus read as follows. ‘The late Mrs Andrews had gone through many hard vicissitudes of pioneering life and often entertained her friends with interesting narratives of the early days, her recollection being very clear. She was highly esteemed by her neighbours, and a large circle of acquaintances.’ Her son, George and his wife, Annie erected a beautiful monument over her grave site in the old Roman Catholic No2 cemetery at Queens Street at Singleton. |
