DEATH FOLLOWS SHORT ILLNESS
Sylvester Drake, Age 71 Years Died Today After Five Days Sickness
FUNERAL SERVICE FRIDAY
An illness of five days proved fatal this morning to Sylvester Drake, age 71 years, whose death occurred at his home, 833 South Noble street, at 9:25 o'clock. He became seriously ill last Friday, February 14.
Mr. Drake was born in Shelby township September 23, 1858 and was the son of Hiram and Mary Drake. He was the last member of his family, five brothers and two sisters having preceded in death. He had been a resident of Shelby county all of his life and was an employee of the Shelby Lumber Company.
His first marriage was to Miss Emma Thralls in [July 1] 1880 and four children were born, three of whom survive, were born to them. They are Oda M. Drake, of Charlottsville; Mrs. Clara May Meek and Mrs. Myrtle Ethel Moore, of this city. Mrs. Drake died in the year [May 29]1890. He married Miss Alice Cochran several years later, [December 4, 1890] who survives, and six children were born to them. They are: Lee Drake and Mrs. Fletcher Patterson, of this city; Wilson Drake, of Anderson; Joseph S. Drake, of California; Hershel Drake, of Oakdale, California, and Mrs. Floyd [Goldie] Pope, of Flat Rock.
Funeral services will be held at the Winchester Methodist church in Washington township, of which he was a member, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. W.E. Burkher and the Rev. Mr. Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in charge of C.F. Fix & Son.
