Estelle O. Drake
Estelle O. Drake, 87, formerly of Carlisle, PA,
peacefully passed away on April 15, 2008, at her
home in Silver Spring, MD.
She was born June 7, 1920, in Roxboro, NC, to the
late John Mack Jones, Sr. and Blanche Brown Jones.
She was the eldest of their six children.
Estelle spent her early years in Republic, PA, and
graduated from Red Stone High School where she was
an outstanding and popular student.
Estelle met and later married Edmund Drake in
August, 1940. From this union, four children were
born, Bonnie, Toni, Edmund, Jr. and Michael. Her
children remember her as a strong, loving mother,
who often sacrificed her personal wants for the
benefit of the family. She was affectionately known
by her grandchildren as "Lovie," a nickname derived
from her calling her grandchildren her "Little
She was employed as a clerk-typist at the Navy
Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Eventually, she was able to transfer to Washington,
DC, to pursue her career at the Naval Electronics
Systems Command. Her professional abilities and
dedication duty helped maintain the U.S. Fleet in a
high degree of material readiness. Her "can do"
spirit made her a highly valued employee. After more
than 30 years of government service, she retired as
a Ships Program Coordinator in 1982 and was able to
look back with pride on the many achievements of her

Robinson, sisters, Lynn Plater and Oveda Collins,
brother Robin Jones and ex-husband, Edmund Drake,
She is survived by daughter, Toni Myers and
son-in-law, Larry of Harrisburg, PA; son, Edmund
Drake, Jr. of Harrisburg, PA; son, Michael Drake and
daughter-in-law, Linda of Cockeys-ville, MD;
brother, John Mack Jones, Jr. and sister-in-law,
Sarah of Republic, PA; sister, Alverna Jones of
Carlisle, PA; grandchildren, Marcia, Sherri, Renee
and Keira; great grandchildren, Solomon, Jr., Amber,
Ashley and Logan; many nieces, nephews, cousins and
dear friends. She will be sorely missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to a time of
viewing on Sunday, April 20, 2008 from 7-9 p.m., at
Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd., West,
Silver Spring, MD. Her life will be celebrated on
Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:30 a.m., at St.
Michael's Catholic Church, 805 Wayne Avenue, Silver
Spring, MD. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven
