The Upper Hunter (Formerly Scone.) Shire Council is building new Council Chambers, And wishing to hold future ANZAC Day Marches and Ceremony off the main street, propose to relocate the First World War Memorial Gateway from where it stands to the site of the Council chambers which is off the main street.
This Memorial has stood unmolested for 84 years where it can be seen by all. I believe it is likely to finish up as a heap of rubble if an attempt to relocate it goes ahead.
My Suggestion that this memorial remain where it is and a new Memorial honouring the Men and Women of the Upper Hunter Shire, be erected outside the new council chambers, has been rejected.
They have already re-located the Lone Pine tree with disastrous results.
Your assistance by way of a letter to the Editor of the Scone Advocate at PO. Box 12. Scone 2337 or firstname.lastname@example.org would be appreciated.
