Forgive my intrusion,
My name is Paul Shields and I was born (my mother was Elizabeth Ness) in Singleton on the 29th Jan1955. My father met my mother at a golf game in 1954.

I believe a photo of my mother was published in the paper prior to xmas showing the guides.

My Grandmother was Eleanor Ness who lived at 11 Bishopgate St Singleton.

I have been researching the Ness Family History along with the Carscadden Connection.

My Grandfather William Ness along with his 5 brothers all served in W.W.II. Their Father William Ness Snr (lived in Muswellbrook) also joined and there was an article in the sydney papers about them all joining up.

I am a member of the South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society and the Fife Family History Society from where my grandparents came from.

My GGrand Father died in 1972 and I have been trying to find out if anybody has information on his service number in the AIF (as short as his service was) His records may help me find out some truth back in Fife.

I have been informed that a William Ness has been researching the same line as I am and have not been able to locate him after sending emails to his address.

Is any body researching the Ness family in your Society.

Regards

Paul. Shields

My grandmother's maiden name was Henrietta Ness. She was born in Queenstown, Melbourne, in 1872. I understand her father was born in Danzig which was then part of Germany and is today Gdansk in Poland. She married William Johansen and they lived on the goldfields in Victoria and Western Australia until he bought a grocery store in Adelaide. She died at the age of 106 in Stawell, Victoria. She told me she remembered exchanging letters with a cousin in Chicago when she was young, so I guess one of his brothers must have gone to the US. Hope this may be of help. If it is please let me know. Cheers, Ted James, Panama
