It has been a while in coming but the wait has been worthwhile! We are thrilled to announce that the Hill End & Tambaroora Gathering Group website is now LIVE and available at the following link
This is also where you will find your newsletter with details of the upcoming Gathering on Saturday 2nd March. The link to the latest newsletter is on the front page and you can browse all the back issues under the “Publications” tab.
We were fortunate to receive financial assistance for the website in the form of a Conservation and Interpretation Fund Grant from Bathurst Regional Council and combined with the work of a small but enthusiastic band of volunteers the site is now available for all to view.
Our volunteers have spent hundreds of hours sourcing and transcribing original records from libraries and archives so that it all appears in one place. We will be constantly adding new material so hopefully you will return on a regular basis to see if your ancestor has turned up. Family historians may still wish to view the original documents but the information on the site will provide you with a starting point for your research.
The website offers a selection of maps, electoral rolls, photographs, Census details, mining records, book indexes and especially alphabetical lists of names attached to petitions. This may just help you fill in the blank spots in your family history.
If you are considering a visit to Hill End then check out the “About Hill End” page for lots of ideas on places to stay and hints for activities to ensure you make the most of your time.
The site also has the ability to provide feedback – tell us what you think! It also offers the facility where you can post your genealogical “brick walls” on the “Can you help?” page. If you can help others, then please respond and share your knowledge.
We will be officially launching the website at the State Library of NSW on March 16th, after the Tour of the Holtermann photo exhibition, “The greatest wonder of the world”. The event is free but bookings are essential for catering purposes.
Hardcopies of the newsletter have also been mailed out to those who have received their newsletter this way in the past. If you now have access to the internet and are happy to just receive notifications via email please let us know via return email or via the form included in your printed newsletter. Newsletters will no longer be sent as attachments to emails so will not "clog" up your inbox.
Our mailing list is used only for material related to Hill End and Tambaroora or family history and is not shared for any other purpose. If you do not wish to receive further notifications about the Hill End & Tambaroora Gathering Group please reply to this email with the message "unsubscribe" in the Subject heading and in the text of the message. We will remove you from the list.
