I just received notice of a new test result for Kit #26298. This is
another exact match with the IOW families.
I need to know the EKA for this test.

Thanks,
Don

Hi Don:

Ummm...#26298 is my dad, Calvin Drake. Would be happy to let you know
what the EKA is for the test if I knew what an EKA was. Please advise
& I will do my best.<smile> I did list some info. at the Drake
website.

Is the IOW, Isle of Wright out of VA??? Having seen 'myself' in
photos in a National Geographic article on the real Isle a few years
back I'm not surprised there's a connection.

I've recently found a name matching my grandfather, Osborne Drake
(born about 1830 VA), in a will from VA. You may or may not have this
already. I also have a photo of Osborne's son, William Rutledge
Drake, my g-grandfather.

Maybe we can piece this together. I've been hooked on family history
since age 14 (30 years now) so my dad's early Christmas gift of the
DNA test is the BEST!

Thanks for your time. Looking forward to more conversations.

Best Wishes,
Debi Drake-Maurer

Thanks,

Hi:

Thanks for explaining genealogy shorthand, Alfred. And for all the
other IOW cousins reading this, I'm glad to know the right Drake
family reunions to start showing up at!<smile> Just so you know, my
hubby bakes some great pies so we won't arrive empty handed.

My EKA info. is as follows:

Parents of William Rutledge Drake:

Osborne Drake (est. DOB 1830, VA. Died Oct. 24, 1879 Nebraska City,
NE (He's list as both Osborne, O. and L. Drake in Nebraska census
records.)

married November 2, 1862 in Nebraska City, NE:

Lizzie Fox, (est DOB 1842, TN. Died 1878 Nebraska City, NE) (Note: on
marriage certificate Lizzie crossed out "Elizab.." and wrote "Lizzie"
in very distinctly.)

Some recent paper trail clues that are leading to Osborne Drake being
from the IOW Drakes are:

A note from Susan Scott of this Drake List (thanks again, Susan!) who
shared info. from this census:
Webster Co., Kentucky 1860 page 476 Slaughterville P.O. There is an
Osborne L. Drake, born Virginia, that married Mary S. Slaughter
September 9, 1858 in Christian, Kentucky. This appears to be the same
Osborne Drake listed with the Slaughter family but no wife. He does
have a baby girl that is 3 months old named Mary. It would appear
that his wife died in childbirth. He is the right age to be your
Osborne L. Drake. He is listed as a doctor on the 1860 census.

And, a will from Terressa Drake (wife of Thomas Drake, Thomas' DOB
abt 1770, Goochland, VA, died abt 1837 Todd, KY -- Terressa died 1845
Powhatan, VA) that lists Terressa's son Osborne L. Drake along with
son Lineus G. Drake & some other sons. I received this will from
someone at another genealogy website.

Best,

Debi and all,

Please note that the DNA pattern cited does not match Isle of Wight,
but rather New Kent County, Virginia Drakes. This is consistent with the
Powhatan County connection you mention.

Sorry about confusing the connections of IOW or New Kent Drakes -- I
was just going by a note that mentioned IOW. I'm guessing this proves
a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. But can I still visit the
IOW Drakes if I bring pies??<smile>

Debi,

Should I list your EKA as Osborne Drake 1830 of Virginia or Thomas 1770
of Goochland, Virginia?

Thanks,
Don

Are you absolutely sure that we are not connected with the IOW Drakes? All
of my material says I am connected. This has been difficult to believe.

I guess I can throw all of that material away. LOL Frances

Hi -- crossing here in e-mail land:

I'm not sure. With the DNA results and the name listed in Terressa
Drake's will, would that be enough to claim Thomas 1770 as my own??
What's proper in the public genealogy research world?? (vs. what we
dish about with the relatives and claim as 'true'??)

Unless you know for sure, in fact I looked around Google and couldn't find
much. In my own data base, using Thomas and 1770 I only find Thomas married
to Rachel Peak. This Thomas was son of James Francis and Ann Bruce. James
Francis was son of John Drake and Ann Spicer down the line of Sir Francis
and Joan Strode.

Dear Alfred and Listers and Rick Gardner:

The list of characters you have shown below belong to me and Rick
Gardner. He is a descendant of Thomas and I am a descendant of Thomas'
sister, Betsy Bruce Drake.

I would love to know about Ann Spicer and all, and how you found out who
she was. Could you please enlighten me? Else, I shall continue as

Dear Frances,

I'm not sure who the "we" is of which you speak. I was only commenting on
the DNA pattern of # 26298. If you explain further, then I could perhaps
comment
further.
