Martin Drake of Fairbanks Twp., Sullivan Co., IN - son of James Drake MARTIN DRAKE. This gentleman was born in Fairbanks Township, Sullivan Co., Ind., December 15, 1833. In 1817, his father, James Drake, came to Sullivan County, which he ever afterward made his home, becoming well and favorably known to the people of the county, He was an intelligent, energetic and public-spirited man, and a successful and well-to-do farmer, acquiring a comfortable home for himself and family. He was twice married, his second wife being Mrs. Mary (Stone) Pearson, the mother of the subject of this brief biography. Martin Drake was reared upon his father's farm, receiving such education as the schools of that early day afforded. He was united in marriage with Miss Matilda Osburn January 19, 1860, daughter of William and Martha J. Osburn, and to this union have been born a family of five children, viz.: Mary Jane, born November 15, 1860; Rosa Ann, born February 27, 1862; Eunice, born April 7, 1866; Albert H., born September 25, 1868; and Lillie, born February 20, 1875. Mr. Drake has lways followed farming and stock-raising. He owns 463 acres of land, a portion of which is well improved. He and family are consistent members of the Baptist Church, and are earnest advocates of the temperence cause and all needed reforms and public and charitable enterprises. Mr. Drake is a Republican, and one of the progressive and intelligent citizens of Sullivan County.
