Subject: Convict at Patricks Plains
G’day Roy
Have recently found that I am descended from convict George Collins (arrived NSW 1839) who received a Ticket of Leave for Patricks Plains in 1845. Have purchased his death certificate which shows George Collins (labourer) died at St Clair near Singleton 8 Oct 1859 from disease of the liver. He was buried in Singleton with the funeral by a Presbyterian minister.
I am trying to find any information I can regarding his life in Patricks Plains. It appears that he never married in Australia (Although I live in Australia now, I am descended from his daughter who remained in England).
I understand that there was a St Clair homestead now covered by a lake, also an aboriginal settlement ? Are you aware of any information regarding the possibility that he worked there ? Are there any books regarding the areas at the times etc.
I look forward to any ideas that you may have.
