Hi, I am descended from Marmaduke Drake (b. 1798) of Kettlewell, Yorkshire who had a son David, b.1831. Marmaduke Drake's parents were Marmaduke Drake (b.1768) and Elizabeth Coates (b.1769?) and married in 1794. Somewhere some years ago I found a strong family line, tracing back via "Marmadukes" to the 15-1600's...a repeating family name so esy to follow...but I have lost the link. Marmaduke Drake (b.1768) and Elizabeth Coates had 4 children, John (b. 1797) Marmaduke (b. 1798) Dorothy (b. 1800) and Ann (b. 1802) They lived at Kettlewell, Yorkshire at Mill End Farm. Marmaduke (b. 1798) had a son David (b.1830/31). They also lived at Kettlewell, Yorkshire(Moor End Farm). (I do not know Marmaduke's spouse or David's siblings) David (b. 1830/31) married a Scottish woman Ann Skene Alexander (b. Scotland 1836?). They came to Victoria, Australia for years in the 1850's but returned to England by the 1881 census. They daughters Elsie (1868), Frances(1862), Isabella (1864) and Eleanor (1858) all born in Victoria Australia.(A son and daughter died young) My great grandmother was Frances Drake (Fanny b.1862) Fanny (b.1862) married Edwin Lockington (b.1862) in Melbourne Australia in 1890. Isabella married a Mr George Blackham of London in 1894. Elsie married a Mr Max Luscombe in East Melbourne in 1892. Eleanor married Mr David Reid in 1892. I am just letting you know in case anybody else is looking! I would love to know also. Libby Mitchell, Victoria, Australia |

Dear Libby - I have Ellen RAW (1802 - ?) married 5 Sept 1821 married Marmaduke (b. 1798). Ellen was dau. of Isaiah RAW ( 1759 – 12 Jun 1825 - ) married on 5 Sept 1785 to Mary JOPLIN (or Taylor??) (27 Jun 1759 - 1859) Isaiah Raw died 12 June 1825, aged 65, and was buried in Redmire with his daughter Jane. Jane's metal-plated headstone describes her death `after a lingering illness borne with truly Christian fortitude and resignation to the will of her maker in the 30th year of her age.' Ellen was one of 10 children. Regards, Lisa |
