Hi Roy, I am trying to establish if Edward DRAKE, the son of William and Elizabeth (PONSFORD) DRAKE is my Great Grandfather. I note on Michael Sykes web site that he recorded Edward as being the son of William and Elizabeth but has no other information concerning him. I am therefore hoping that he or someone else may have some further information as Michael's e-mail address appears to no longer be in service as I have had my attempts to contact him returned as undeliverable. Edward DRAKE is listed in the 1851 census as being a 16 year old "Earrent Boy" which I assume, always a dangerous thing to do, is more probably an Errand Boy. I am trying to find out if he is in fact Edward William DRAKE who married someone named Mary, surname unknown, probably in Devon before moving to St Pancras and later Hampstead, London, where, with his sons established a building firm, building numerous flats in Hampstead and Finchley. By the 1881 census whilst working his way to London, Edward and Mary produce W.H. DRAKE in Bristol c1862, John DRAKE in Thame, Oxford c1864. Once settled in London, Emma arrived in 1869, followed by my Grandfather, Ernest Andrew DRAKE in 1872 and finally Horace DRAKE in 1887 also living with them at 32 Ryle Street in St. Pancras, London was Harry Nolan, listed as a Nephew and a Railway Servant. Hoping someone can help me. Malcolm Wake Regina, Saskatchewan, CANADA. |
