Sir:

Researching your ancestor or at least his family, I encountered
in the Zelia Nuttal book A NEW LIGHT ON DRAKE a reference to his cousin John
who had shipwrecked in the River Platte Delta, and was captured by the
Spanish. The statements that he made to the Inquisition are significant in
the historical review of the voyage of circumnavigation.

What is significant is that a senior [ Drake ] (age approx. 80)
is accused of reverting back from Roman Catholicism and that his location is
Cartegena (Panama), . This port while Spanish was the scene of numerous Eng.
Attacks.

My question to you is - does your research show any descendents
from a John Drake that was in the Spanish sphere at the turn of the 16th
century? Also could you put me in touch with any persons who are actively
researching Sir Francis Drake and his voyage around the world?

Hi there Ralph and thankyou for the email, apology for not getting back to you sooner, have been so busy with work and family.
All I have on John Drake (assuming its the same) is;

1587 - John Drake declared his genealogy in the following from January 8, 1587 to Inquistor Licentiate Antonio Guttierez de Ulloa as: Father and Mother: Robert and Anna Drake natives of Tavistock; that his father was dead, that he left his mother alive, father was gentlman and lived on his farm in the said place. Paternal Grandparents: John Drake Margery Drake lived Tavistock had lived on farm. Maternal Grandparents: not know but were from Tavistock Uncles His father's brothers: John1, John 2, Edmond. His cousins: Sir Francis, Thomas. Brothers and sisters: Dorothy, John 1 who was died, Isabbel who was died John 2 was not married but later married a spanish wife

I (plus many others ) would love to shed more light on this John Drake.
