I am searching for any family and ancestry of Daniel Drake. Family legend says he was born in Rodchested NY. He was one of 16 children by his father, Daniel Drake and his 2 wives, one with the maiden name of Grey and the other Johnson. The story goes that he ran away from home at the age of 8, made his way by the Erie Canal and the Hudson River to NYC where he slept in a blacksmiths shop and eventually became a blacksmith. He married Ellen Kennedy, an immigrant from Ireland. Any leads will be much appreciated. |
