No luck. However, I just stumbled onto a possibility that their mother bought land under her maiden name (she was a widow). Could this be a real possibility? Would she have used her maiden name for such a purchase? The land is in the right area at the right time. She bought land in 1834 but is not listed on either the 1830 or 1840 census. It appears that her son might be living on the land in 1840. I'm going back tomorrow to the LDS to look at tax and land records in her name. It seems odd that she would use her maiden name though. By all means pursue that lead and let me know. WHERE was the land?

The only Drake I can find in that township until my Francis P. Drake in 1840 was a William Drake who was on the 1833 and 1834 tax list. He was listed on the 1835 tax list as having no land or taxes owed. Probate records that I ordered have just come in so tomorrow I am also going to see what happened to him. I will be sure and copy legal descriptions etc. Susan
