James Hampton "Chip" Drake Jr. MOULTRIE — James Hampton “Chip” Drake Jr., 60, of Moultrie, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at South Miami Hospital in Miami, Fla.Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Hugh Ward officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Casketbearers will be Mark Cochran, Bruce Norton, Les Carroll, Robert Kimm Ballard, Lee Ballard, Jason Key, Buck Heard and Tommy Rowell.Born Sept. 30, 1948, in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late James Hampton Drake and Avis Hinley Drake. He was a 1968 graduate of Moultrie High School and attended Marsh Business College in Atlanta. He served in the United States Army Reserve and was the owner of Drake Property . He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the St. Marks Social Club. He was a direct descendant of the Salzburger family, pioneer settlers of Chatham and Effingham counties. His family said he was a beloved father and grandfather.Surviving are two daughters, Misty Suzanne Drake of Covington, Ga., and Laura Drake Malone and husband Alex of Moultrie; stepson, Mark Cochran and wife Denise of Toccoa, Ga.; sister, Letitia Drake Ballard and husband Doyle of Morven, Ga.; brother, John Harn Drake and wife Margaret of Quitman, Ga.; three grandchildren, Meagan Mullins, Avis Malone and Naomi Malone; as well as many extended family members.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 7, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.Cobb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.Please sign the online guest book at moultrieobserver.com. |
