Cornelius Drake. Son of William Drake & Elisabeth Teylor. Born 9 Aug 1741 in Fishkill, Dutchess Co., New York. Christen 13 Aug 1741 in Fishkill, Dutchess Co., New York. Died About 1815 in Christian County, Kentucky. Cornelius shows up in the tax rolls in Nelson Co.,KY as of 10-31-1792. He is listed as having 100 acres. In the March 12, 1793 entry into the Nelson County, Kentucky "Court of Quarter Sessions 1791-1793 " book, pages 245 states that CORNELIUS DRAKE and JOB MATTHEWS along with 28 named other men, " and all other tithables within the bounds of the above mentioned tithables are to assist William Edwards in keeping the road in repair of which he is overseer." In the same book, page 251, dated May 14, 1793 , he is mentioned again, " Deed from Issac Hite and Harriet Hite his wife, Abraham Hite and Elizabeth Hite,his wife, Joseph Hite and Sarah Hite, his wife, and Rebecca Hite, to Thomas Hoddy , was proven by CORNELIUS DRAKE , Samuel Greer and William Goff, witnesses thereto, and ordered recorded. Other deeds from the same parties to Samuel Greer, to CORNELIUS DRAKE, to William Morrison, and to Nicholas Minor, were likewise proved among the same parties and recorded. Cornelius is mentioned in the Nelson County, Kentucky book " Executors, Administrators and Guardians Bond Book One 1792-1804 " on page 48 , "Administrators Bond, Sarah Goff for the estate of WIlliam Goff, dec'd, 250 pounds, with John McCasland and CORNELIUS DRAKE as sureties, October 13, 1795." Died 25 Jan 1839 in Carmi, White Co.,IL. In the list of taxable property in Nelson County, Ky for 1792, Daniel Bidwell is listed as having 30 acres. 3. Sally Drake. Daughter of Cornelius Drake & Sarah Worthington. Born 1773 in Stillwater, Albany Co., NY. She first married William Goff, 10 May 1791 in Nelson Co.,KY. Died 1795. In the Nelson Co. 1792 tax list there is a "William Gauff" listed with 62 acres. She second married Thomas Bane, 19 Jul 1796 in Nelson Co.,KY. 4. Priscilla Drake. Daughter of Cornelius Drake & Sarah Worthington. Born 1774 in Stillwater, Albany Co.,NY. Died After 1850 in Warrick Co.,IN. >From the Nelson County, Kentucky Marriage Records; Job Matthews married Priscilla Drake, daughter of Cornelius Drake. Surety, Cornelius Drake. December 27, 1793. She married Job Matthews, son of George Matthews & Amelia Anne Paul, 27 Dec 1793 in Nelson County, Kentucky. Born 24 Dec 1772 in Augusta County,Virginia. Died 6 May 1851 in Warrick Co.,IN. Buried in family plot on homestead. Jobe (Job) Matthews was born in Augusta County, Virginia on December 24, 1772. He migrated into Kentucky and settled into Muhlenburg County. There he remained for several years and it was there that some of his children were married. Then in the year 1800, Jobe Matthews with his family, moved over into Indiana territory and located on a farm near Mt. Gilead, about two miles south of Boonville in Warrick County, Indiana. Among the deeds in the Boonville Court House is one of a transfer of Jobe Matthews farm to his son, Aaron Matthews , in return for his keep for the remainder of his life. The date on the old tombstone at Jobe's grave bears the date, 1851. The dwelling house on the Jobe Matthews farm burned and Aaron Matthews moved to the Stone House near Newburgh in the year 1850. In the 1850 Warrick County Census, Job is listed as age 82 and Priscilla age 76. The Nelson County, Kentucky marriage records have Priscilla' s father listed as Cornelius Drake. 5. Francis Drake. Born 20 Nov 1777 in Stillwater, Albany Co., NY. Died Jul 1863 in Muhlenburg County, KY. He married Jane Waters, 16 Feb 1801 in Christian Co.,KY. Born 1782 in North Carolina.
