According to he r papers from the Dunwich Benevolent Asylum:
Home Secretary's Office, Brisbane 24th September 1914.

Sir, I have the honour to i nform you that the admission to the Dunwich
Benevolent Asylum of Mrs Catherin e Wittney, an Old Age Pensioner, has
been approved on the usual condition tha t you will be good enough to pay
to the Curator the sum of 8/- a week for the maintenance of Mrs Whitney
in that Institution. A copy of the Police Report relating to the case is
forwarded, herewith,

Sir, I have the honour to furnish the following particulars with
reference to 5/15 Kate Whitney, born Erwinstone, Ireland who died at th e
Institution on the 20 March 1916.
Date of Admission - 22 January 1915
Age at Date of Admission - 76
Date of Death - 20 March 1916
Cause of death - Sen ile Decay, Chronic Bronchitis, Exhaustion.
Exhumation License No 1418 issued t o Cannon & Cripps for removal of body
to Toowong Cemetery. Rec. No. 606029 2 6.1.17.

This woman under the ord inary course of events should have been admitted
to this Institution in the m onth of November 1914 as her papers were sent
down in the usual way in the be ginning of that month, but as she did not
put in an appearance within a reaso nable time, her papers were sent back
to your office with Mr Agnow's note on them dated the 18th Novr 1914 and
the papers were then marked away in your of fice.
Mrs Whitney however, arrived here on the 22nd Jany 1915 and was duly
a dmitted, apparently no papers came with her on this auspicious occasion,
prob ably, an oversigh on the part of someone.
Hoping this explanation will meet wi th Your Royal Highnesse's approval,

Catherine McManus was first intered on the 21 Mar 1916 in the Dunwich
Cemetery and the license to remove a body was issued on the 26 Jan 1917
for reinterment on 9 Feb 1917 in the Toowong Cemetery.

Sir, I beg to forward herewith an application by Mrs Catherine Wittney
for admission to the benevolent asylum at Dunwich.
The applicant is 77 year of age, and receives the old age pension but has
no one to look after her and she is unable to care for herself : she is a
widow and has been a resident o f Toowong for 40 years : she is now
without a Home of any kind with the excep tion of a temporary one procured
for her by myself, I having found her wander ing in the streets of Toowong
on Tuesday last.
Her children with the excepti on of those living in Wynnum of whom I know
nothing are a drunken worthless l ot, and have no settled place of abode,
And will make no reliable offer of as sistance.
Applicant is of temperate habits and bears an excellent character, a nd
under the circumstances I would ask the Sub Inspector to be kind enough
to treat this matter as urgent, the people with whom she is now residing
havi ng refused to keep her longer.
