Don't think that because you have located a Drake family crest, you can use it. Family crests were NOT awarded to family "names." They were awarded to specific individuals. Once awarded, the descendants of that person could use the crest, but proof must be made to show the family relationship (if you want it to be "official"). This is why there are different Drake family crests, and why no one else can use or adopt a Drake family crest for their own use without proof of lineage. You can pay to have an official family crest made for you today, one that is recognized by the government of either Ireland or England (England is much more expensive than Ireland). |
