I am researching my husband's Drake family and am looking for connections both ancestral and descendancy. First the ancestors: My husband's grandfather was Edward Herbert Drake, he was born in 1910 in Middlesex, London, England. In 1936 he married to Lillian Freshwater in Islington and in 1937 he died leaving a newborn son (my father-in-law). Edward Herbert's parents were: Herbert Paget Drake born 1867 in St. Pancras, Middlesex and Lucy Louise Bagnall. Herbert Paget was the son of Francis Smith Drake (born 1844 in Middlesex, died btn 1869-1881 in Saint Pancras) and Mary Ann Franklin (born c1846). Herbert also had a brother: Francis Robert born 1865 and a sister: Florence Amy born 1869. In the 1881 census I found Florence as a patient in a women's only hospital, haven't checked the 1891 census for this family yet. From this point on, my info. is 95% certain but not confirmed. Francis Smith Drake's father was a Francis Drake who was a pipe maker and a Margaret (this info. is from their son's marriage certificate). On the 1881 census, I did find one and only one Francis Drake born 1813 married to a Margaret born 1821 living in St. Pancras. The census says that Francis, Sr. was born in Norwich, Norfolk and Margaret in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, it also noted Francis' occupation as a Pipe Maker, so it looks like a good match so far. Now for the difficult part, the descendancy {BG}. When Edward Herbert Drake died, his wife and son never heard from the Drake's again. My father-in-law's mother is now deceased and he has no idea if his father had family left in the area or not. It was not a subject allowed in the house. Anyway, the only thing we know is that Edward had a sister (born prior to 1910) who married a Canadian and moved to the Ottawa Valley area in Canada. We don't know her married name or even her given name. My father-in-law who nows lives in Canada as well, is quite eager to make contact with the family of his father's sister. Because of privacy laws regarding census', etc. I am left to put this plea in as many places as possible and hope someone recognizes the information. |
